The 1952 Chet Herbert Beast

The fastest single engined racer in America in 1952. It ran at Bonneville driven by Art Chrisman and achieved an incredible 238.095 mph, and when showed up at Bonneville that year it created a sensation.
It was built by Chet Herbert with the aid of Cal Tech wind tunnel and a 1/10th scale model and this was the first time a wind tunnel had been used for that purpose. Shapel Engineering Company in Los Angeles built the Hemi powered 331 Chrysler Engine and an 18 inch Halibrand rear end In 1953 it was re-engined with a 425 cubic inch was driven to two additional records. In 1955 the car was pout into dry storage and was located by Dave Crouse in 2009. Its current owner has restored it to it's original 1952 specifications.
Owner Mark and Newie Brinker, Houston, TX.
