Gene Winfield is really one of the most active and prolific guys in the hobby. He travels all over the country to various shows and still maintains a growing business on the west coast. Gene just turned 70 years old and as you can see by the picture he sure doesn't look it. We will be doing much more about Gene in the future, so stay tuned. I wonder why I am so much grayer than these guys?

I last saw Dick Dean in Detroit, at the Autorama, in 1959. We both had cars there and he was 2 cars down from me in the rear building at the Autorama. At that same show was Connie Kalitta and Bill Hines. It's hard to believe that almost 40 years later, we are still messing around with cars. Although Dick has gained notoriety in the last few years, most people don't realize that he was the builder behind the scenes at the George Barris shop for many years. Many of the fabulous cars that came out of that shop, had Dick Dean's hand on them. Few people can shape metal like Dick. It is amazing how many good builders came from my old stomping grounds of Detroit. Some day I would like to meet my old striper friend and idol, Paul Hatton from Detroit.
